Charming bolthole in rural Dorset. Smart, comfy country-style decor, with quiet villages, bustling towns and the coast all within easy reach

Stylish country living in a wool-dyeing shed transformed into a serene bolthole for two. It’s only a couple of miles from charming Wimborne Minster but after bumping down the track to Sarah and David’s lovely farmhouse, you’ll feel deep in rural peace. Built as a cowshed with traditional red bricks in the 19th century, it has been creatively restored. Green window frames brighten the façade; inside, natural materials including slate and oak complement original exposed timbers and vaulted ceilings. Creamy white walls contrast beautifully with vibrant kilims and fabrics chosen by Sarah, a textile designer, while shelves are stacked with maps and fascinating books on the local area – published by David. Plump sofas surround a contemporary wood-burner and there’s a cosy farmhouse kitchen where you can breakfast in the morning sunshine. Back through the sitting room, step into a spacious bedroom with an elegant iron bed dressed in fine linen; there’s a smart shower room stocked with fluffy towels and deliciously scented bath products too. Hop in the car to explore sandy beaches and sleepy villages.
